This data is processed from global drought severity data, based on the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) at the 12-month scale in December each year. Thresholds are used to classify drought levels, namely: SPEI>-0.5 no drought, -1.0<SPEII ≤ -0.5 mild drought, -1.5<SPEI ≤ -1.0 moderate drought, -2.0<SPEI ≤ -1.5 severe drought, and SPEI ≤ -2.0 extreme drought.
